Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez Condemns the Attack Against Democracy in Colombia After Assassination Attempt of Miguel Uribe

Colombia has been a beacon of democratic hope in our region for decades, but the attempted assassination of presidential candidate Miguel Uribe is a disturbing sign of backsliding. My prayers are with him, his family, and all Colombians who today feel fear, frustration, and anger. This act is not only an attack on a man-it is a direct assault on democracy itself, fueled by the dangerous and radical leftist rhetoric coming from the highest levels of the Colombian government. This is the murderous left that wants to destroy democracy in Colombia. Those responsible must face justice, and President Petro must take seriously his duty to protect all public officials without exception. As Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, I stand in unwavering solidarity with the people of Colombia and with one of the oldest democracies in Latin America.
