A new Florida law now allows pregnant women to apply for temporary parking permits, making it easier to access parking closer to medical offices, grocery and drug stores.
The law, which took effect July 1, 2025, authorizes the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to issue temporary disabled parking placards to expectant mothers. The permit is valid for up to one year and costs $15.
To apply, individuals must submit a completed application form signed by a licensed Florida physician. The form—HSMV 83040—can be submitted to any of the Miami-Dade local tax collector’s offices or a license plate agency (for a fee).
