Statement From Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez On Special Interests Opposing The Elimination Of The Physical Yellow Decal Placed On License Plates — We Serve The People, Not Special Interests

Jan 23, 2026 5 mins read

As Miami Dade County Tax Collector, I made it clear weeks ago that Florida is ready to move beyond the outdated yellow vehicle registration decal. The legislation filed for the 2026 Florida Legislative Session takes that next step by moving to a fully electronic registration verification system that reflects the technology we already use today. Eliminating the yellow decal will save millions of dollars in Miami Dade County, reduce fraud, improve efficiency, and strengthen accountability. This reform cuts red tape, eliminates outdated requirements, and modernizes how government delivers essential services.

There is a small set of special interests fighting to keep the broken system exactly as it is because they profit from delay, confusion, and bureaucracy. They want government to stay slow, outdated, and frustrating for the people who rely on it. We do not answer to special interests. We answer to the residents of Miami Dade County.

Our duty is to make government work for the people and to make everyday life easier, not harder. Representative Tom Fabricio, Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez, Speaker Daniel Perez, and Governor Ron DeSantis are supporting these efforts and standing with the residents of Miami Dade County. Working together, we are building a government that is more efficient, more accessible, and more accountable. That is what putting people first looks like. God bless  Miami Dade County and God bless the United States of America.
