Miami-Dade Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez announced today that he has been selected to receive the Public Service Award – Local Government at United HomeCare’s 31st Annual Claude Pepper Awards, recognizing his leadership and commitment to serving the residents of Miami-Dade County.

Presented annually by United HomeCare, the Claude Pepper Awards honor individuals and organizations who advocate for dignity, independence, and quality care for seniors, disabled adults, and family caregivers throughout South Florida.
“I am deeply honored to be recognized by United HomeCare through the Claude Pepper Awards,” said Fernandez. “Public service is about improving lives and strengthening our community. I share this recognition with the many public servants and community partners who work every day to serve the residents of Miami-Dade County.”

For 31 years, United HomeCare’s Annual Claude Pepper Awards have emerged as one of South Florida’s signature charitable events, celebrating leaders who exemplify the spirit and ideals of the awards’ namesake, The Honorable Senator Claude Pepper, a tireless advocate for older Americans.

Senator Pepper once said, “Life is like riding a bicycle: you don’t fall off unless you stop pedaling.” In this spirit, United HomeCare continues its commitment to the community by championing causes that deliver proven quality care solutions and by carrying forward Claude Pepper’s legacy through what has become a gathering of camaraderie for South Florida’s most dedicated community champions and advocates.

Fernandez joins a distinguished group of honorees being recognized for their contributions in healthcare, philanthropy, education, public service, and community leadership.

The 31st Annual Claude Pepper Awards will take place on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Pullman Hotel Miami. The event brings together community leaders and supporters to celebrate the year’s inspiring honorees while raising charitable funds that strengthen services supporting the health and independence of seniors and disabled adults across South Florida.
