Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez Cracks Down On Driver License Exam Fraud
The Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office stopped multiple individuals who attempted to commit fraud during the driver license knowledge examination at one of our locations.
The individuals entered the office equipped with concealed electronic devices, microphones and recording equipment intended to provide unauthorized assistance during the examination. Their actions were deliberate, dishonest and a direct attack on the integrity of Florida’s driver licensing process.
Because of the vigilance, training and swift action of Tax Collector staff, the devices were discovered and the fraud attempts were immediately stopped.
“Let me be absolutely clear: fraud will not be tolerated at any Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office or by any authorized third-party administrator, commonly known as a driving school,” said Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez “Anyone who attempts to cheat, deceive staff or compromise a state examination should expect to be caught, reported and held accountable.”
Someone who attempts to obtain a Florida identification card or driver license through fraud, including by presenting false, altered or fraudulent documents, will be reported to the appropriate authorities and may face serious administrative and criminal consequences. Such conduct may also result in the denial, suspension or loss of eligibility to obtain a Florida identification card or driver license in the future.
“Obtaining a driver license is not a right—it is a privilege,” Fernandez said. “That privilege must be earned honestly. Anyone who attempts to bypass the law, manipulate the testing process or endanger the integrity of our roads will be dealt with firmly.”
The Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office has zero tolerance for fraud. Our staff will remain vigilant, our security procedures will remain strong and every credible attempt to cheat the system will be documented and referred to the proper authorities.
We will continue working with our state and local law-enforcement partners, including the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, to protect the public, preserve the integrity of the driver license process and ensure that every applicant is held to the same legal and safety standards.
