Miami, FL – July 28, 2025. Miami-Dade County Office Tax Collector, Dariel Fernandez, is reminding residents that August 2025 is officially a tax-free month for essential back-to-school purchases. As part of Florida’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, families across the state can enjoy 31 consecutive days of savings from August 1 through August 31, 2025 — a significant financial relief as students gear up for the new academic year.

This initiative, signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis earlier this summer, replaces the previously short-term tax holidays with a permanent, annual exemption every August, giving families more time and flexibility to shop for what they need.

"Helping our families save during the back-to-school season is a priority,” said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “This holiday not only eases the financial burden but ensures every student starts the school year with the tools they need to succeed.”

Eligible tax-free items include:

• Clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less
• School supplies priced at $50 or less
• Learning aids and puzzles
• Personal computers and accessories priced up to $1,500 (for non-commercial use)

Whether shopping in stores or online, Miami-Dade residents can make qualifying purchases without paying sales tax, including items such as uniforms, notebooks, backpacks, pencils, and even laptops.

The Florida Department of Revenue has launched a dedicated webpage with full details on eligibility and restrictions. Families are encouraged to review the list before shopping.

Let’s make this school year the best one yet — and start it off with smart savings!
